Happy New Year!

New Years Day, our first full day at da Slabs started out wonderful. Our friends Mary and Rich made everyone breakfast consisting of Eggs Benedict and Orange Fizzies (orange juice, ice and optional vodka for those of that persuasion). Everything was very good as usual.
At noon was the Annual Polar Plunge into the Coachella Canal. Everyone assembles at the canal and those that go in, sign up and have to swim across and back to receive their certificate.
I took a panorama of the canal and it came out pretty weird, but cool.
I'm standing on the edge of the canal right at the lowest point in what looks to be a dip. I don't think panoramas work well when it's up close. At this point, we're assembling and sign ups are in progress.
Here are people jumping in at noon:
Once done, the group of brave wet participants show off their certificates.

Now that the festivities were done, it's back to camp to start setting up.
We pulled in late last night and just parked as the daylight was running out and planned to fix it the next day.

We helped our camp mate get the water system working for hot water and the shower set up as we were all needing showers at this point. The shower worked wonderfully and everyone felt better.

I repositioned the van, and we emptied stuff out of Vanessa so she could take passengers. We decided we didn't have good food to cook for dinner and we'd go out to Brawley for dinner and supplies.

We managed to find some transmission fluid for Vanessa at the AutoZone. Dinner at Brownies was out as they were closed, so we spoiled ourselves with KFC, which we hadn't had in probably years.  Then went to Walmart for groceries.
By the time all that was done, we were tired and headed home to relax.

So, all in all a good but busy day and a good start to the new year.

Happy New Year for 2014!
